Readout of the FAO Director-General’s meeting with His Excellency David Cruiser Ngcamphalala Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs of the Kingdom of Eswatini

Mbabane - The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, held a bilateral meeting on 24 February with H.E. David Cruiser Ngcamphalala, Acting Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The two discussed the ongoing support FAO is providing in the country, underlining the importance of the work being done for the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund, as well as with the accreditation of national institutions. The Minister explained that addressing the climate crisis is a key priority for the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The Director-General agreed on the need to jointly address the overlapping crises, including the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts and the war in Ukraine, underlining that they were global challenges faced by all.

Qu proceeded to express his satisfaction with the good collaboration between the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment noting that this was the way to advance the transformation of the agrifood systems. He also shared with the Minister the importance of agrotourism and agriproducts, which can enhance tourism.

The Director-General also explained how through innovation and digitalization this sector can be further enhanced to support the improvement of the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
