Togo welcomes FAO’s support to develop agricultural mechanization and capacity building

29 August 2019, Yokohama – In talks today with the President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbé, FAO Director-General called for a strengthening of South-South and triangular cooperation to better meet the development needs of African countries.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the TICAD7, Qu confirmed FAO’s readiness to help Togo to boost farming activities and rural development through digital technologies.

The Organization will also assist the West African country in establishing food safety systems by applying Codex Alimentarius standards and hygiene practices. In addition, Qu said the Organization will work alongside Togo to select climate-resilient and drought tolerant seed varieties to boost the agricultural sector.

For his part, President Gnassingbé, requested FAO’s support to develop irrigation systems, agricultural mechanization and capacity building in Togo.
