World Bank’s Humberto Lopez and FAO’s Director-General agree on strengthening collaboration in agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean

20 September 2019, Washington DC – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu and Humberto Lopez, World Bank Acting Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, in talks today agreed for the need to boost action and income generating opportunities for poor people in the region in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

During the meeting, Qu outlined FAO’s new Hand-in-Hand Initiative which prioritizes targeted work that benefits people in the world’s most vulnerable regions including small island states, least developed and landlocked countries.

Lopez expressed great interest for the initiative, and the parties agreed to set up a working group to explore further areas of closer cooperation, and to complement each others’ strengths and resources for the development of agriculture.
