Bilateral meeting with H. E. William Ruto, President of Kenya

Rome - Today, the FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met at FAO headquarters in Rome with His Excellency William Ruto, President of Kenya, on the margins of the Italy-Africa Summit.  

The Director-General warmly welcomed the President to FAO headquarters and congratulated him on the impressive development of Kenya over the past years under the President’s leadership.

The President conveyed his deep appreciation to the Director-General for the continued and excellent support extended to Kenya and expressed his delight to be back in FAO as the organization that is at the heart of agriculture, which is a key sector in Kenya and at the core of the government’s mandate.

The President further reiterated his appreciation for the partnership, friendship and support received from the Director-General personally, and the Organization as a whole. He assured the Director-General of Kenya’s unwavering support for FAO’s  mandate and congratulated him for the transformation at FAO. He stated that he looks forward to continued partnership in action orientated initiatives for improved agrifood systems transformation and enhanced food security, as well as climate change mitigation initiatives.

The Director-General reiterated his commitment to support Kenya and congratulated the country for being a leader in digitalization, and further recognized Kenya’s potential to lead in Green Industries. He assured the President of FAO’s support in sharing technology-based expertise with Kenya to ensure deliverables and achieve the SDGs through FAO’s aspiration of the Four Betters.

The Director-General concluded by saying that Africa continues to be a focus for FAO, especially by working with key partners for pragmatic actions leading to tangible development.
