Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Cairo - During an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt 2024, the FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, met with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt. 

During the meeting, the Director-General expressed his appreciation for the growing cooperation between Egypt and FAO, and the long-standing support from Egypt to the Organization, including through hosting the FAO Regional Office.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Director-General’s ongoing reforms of FAO, outlining the national strategic priorities which were in line with the Egypt Vision 2030. The Prime Minister provided an overview of the Government's efforts to achieve sustainable development, boost agricultural productivity and deal with the impacts of climate change and disruptions in supply chains. He referred to Egypt’s Water-Food-Energy Nexus (NWFE) and Haya Karima (Decent Life), which target rural villages with investment and a focus on agriculture for rural employment and income generation.

The two sides also discussed opportunities for South-South and Triangular Cooperation building on the newly signed Agreement between FAO and the Egyptian Agency for Partnership Development.

The Director-General and the Prime Minister witnessed the signature of the new Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2023-2027 by H.E El Sayed El-Quseir, Minister for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Abdel Hakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa.

The meeting was also attended by H.E. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation of Egypt.
