Bilateral meeting with H.E. President Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia

Jakarta - FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, and His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, met today at the Indonesia Presidential Palace in Jakarta. 

The President warmly welcomed the Director-General to Indonesia, expressing his appreciation for the strong and enduring partnership between FAO and Indonesia. The President highlighted Indonesia's significant achievements in agriculture, particularly in areas such as irrigation and sustainable farming practices. He emphasized that these advancements have been vital in enhancing national food security and improving the livelihoods of rural communities.

Amid the current pressing global food security challenges, both parties underscored the crucial role that FAO plays in addressing these issues. They expressed satisfaction with the existing collaboration between FAO and Indonesia and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen this partnership to tackle common challenges effectively. 

The Director-General commended President Joko Widodo’s leadership and Indonesia's substantial contributions to global food security, and stated that these efforts were recognized through the awarding of the highest FAO accolade, the FAO Agricola Award, noting their significant impact on global agrifood systems. The Director-General thanked Indonesia for its steadfast support of FAO's mandate and expressed optimism about deepening collaboration in the future to achieve shared goals for sustainable development and food security.
