Bilateral meeting with H.E. SAKAMOTO Tetsushi, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan

Siracusa - On the margins of the G7 Agriculture Ministers’ meeting in Siracusa, Italy, the Director-General met with H.E. Tetsushi Sakamoto, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.

The Director-General thanked the Minister for the opportunity to meet and appreciated the good collaboration with Japan, looking forward to identifying further areas for strengthened collaboration.

The Minister stated he was pleased for the opportunity to meet again with the Director-General after their recent meeting during the G20 Meeting in Brazil. The Minister stated that in view of the deteriorating global food and agriculture situation, Japan had changed its agricultural policy to enhance food security and sustainable agriculture in harmony with the environment.

The Minister further stated that he was pleased with the cooperation on related environmental issues, such as with the joint work through the Convention on Biological Diversity, and looked forward to further expanding the collaboration.

The pair agreed to continue working together in support of agrifood systems transformation and the SDGs.
