Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Han Jun, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China

Beijing - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with H.E. Han Jun, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China on 5 July 2024, the first meeting of the Director-General’s official visit to China.

H.E. Han Jun expressed his appreciation for the work carried out by the Director-General since taking office, spoke highly of FAO's key role in global food and agriculture governance and FAO’s significant contribution to promoting world food security and sustainable agricultural development. He emphasized that the Ministry was ready to further strengthen practical cooperation with FAO in the fields of South-South Cooperation in agriculture, protection of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), FAO’s 1000 Digital Villages Initiative, and the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative, among others.

The Director-General conveyed that FAO highly commended China for its remarkable achievements and significant contributions in poverty alleviation and food security in recent years and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry for its long-term strong support to the Organization. He further highlighted that he looked forward to deepening cooperation in the agrifood field under the framework of the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.
