Bilateral meeting with the Chair of the International Civil Service Commission, Mr Larbi Djacta

New York - On the occasion of his travel to New York, the FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu, met with Mr Larbi Djacta, Chair of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC).

The Director-General commended the deliverables achieved by the ICSC under the leadership of Mr Djacta over the past few years, and welcomed the decision of the ICSC to convene its 98th Session at FAO Headquarters in July 2024, confirming FAO’s full support for the preparation of the meeting.

The Director-General recapped the ongoing internal reform of FAO that ensures optimal conditions of service for staff, reiterating that the reform is in line with the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31, which seeks to support Members in achieving the 2030 Agenda through the transformation of global agrifood systems for the Four Betters.

Mr. Djacta expressed gratitude to FAO for hosting the next ICSC meeting, noting it reflected FAO’s steadfast support to the work of the Commission. He recapped his visit paid to FAO, IFAD and WFP in 2023, and looked forward to renewing the collaboration with the Rome-based agencies in his upcoming travel to Rome.
