Bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador, H.E. Gabriela Sommerfeld

Rome - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met H.E. Gabriela Sommerfeld, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador, at FAO headquarters in Rome.

The Minister conveyed her appreciation to the Director-General for the opportunity to meet with him. She proceeded to highlight the current political situation in Ecuador, emphasizing the country's fight against gangs and violence. She also addressed the significance of immigration from neighboring countries, the impact of poverty and malnutrition, and underlined the need to strengthen cooperation with FAO.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister and acknowledged the challenges facing Ecuador, while also emphasizing the potential of the country's agrifood system and the importance of integrating the "Four Betters". Additionally, he highlighted the importance of the FAO projects in Ecuador through the Hand in Hand Initiative.

The pair further exchanged views on the importance of enhancing production and productivity through technical support and innovations to increase value and achieve the transformation of agrifood systems.

The FAO Director-General and the Minister agreed to continue their cooperation and reiterated their collective will to strengthen the partnership working together towards common objectives.
