Meeting with Ms Emma Metieh Glassco, Director-General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority of the Republic of Liberia

Rabat - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today in Rabat with Ms Emma Metieh Glassco, Director-General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority of the Republic of Liberia, on the margins of the 33rd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa (ARC33).

The Director General thanked Ms Glassco for her participation in the regional conference and conveyed his appreciation to the government of Liberia for the good collaboration. The Director-General also congratulated Liberia on the election of its new President.

Ms Glassco thanked that Director General for the support extended to FAO in Liberia and stressed the need for strengthened support for the agriculture sector which was a priority for the country, including strengthened capacity development.

The Director-General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue to provide all the technical expertise needed in the country and referred in particular to the need to enhance aquaculture and rice production in Liberia. He also invited the country to present a comprehensive plan for the promotion of its agriculture products through relevant FAO platforms.

Both agreed to work together towards agrifood system transformation in Liberia, with particular focus on the aquaculture sector.
