Meeting with The Honourable Thabo Mofosi, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of the Kingdom of Lesotho

Rabat - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today in Rabat with His Excellency Thabo Mofosi, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of the Kingdom of Lesotho, on the margins of the 33rd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Africa (ARC33).

The Director-General conveyed his appreciation to the Minister for the support extended to him in his mandate as FAO Director-General, especially by His Majesty King Letsie III as FAO Special Ambassador for Nutrition.

On behalf of the Government of Lesotho, the Minister expressed gratitude for the strong cooperation and all the support offered to the Kingdom of Lesotho through various projects, including for the formulation of agricultural policies and legal frameworks that improved agriculture in Lesotho. 

He specifically acknowledged support and expressed gratitude on behalf of the government of Lesotho for the extension of His Majesty’s role as FAO Special Ambassador for Nutrition 2024-2026. He also informed that they looked forward to the launch of the FAO 1000 Digital Villages Initiative in Lesotho later this year.

The Minister thanked the Director General for sending a team to Lesotho for the development of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Strategy and Bill, and also acknowledged the support provided through the Hand-in-Hand Initiative and looked forward to the opportunity to present the investment case for Lesotho later this year in Rome.

The Minister further thanked the Director-General for the support provided in strengtheninglegislation and building capacity to support implementation, compliance and enforcement. 

The Director General reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to continue to strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom of Lesotho and both agreed to continue to work together towards agrifood system transformation in the country.
