Readout of the bilateral meeting with H.E. Floyd Green, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining of Jamaica

Georgetown, Guyana - The FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met with H.E. Floyd Green, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining of Jamaica on the sidelines of the FAO Regional Ministerial Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC38) in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Minister appreciated the opportunity to meet the Director-General and stressed the significance of fisheries in the life of the small islands. The Minister further highlighted that for Jamaica more support on data was crucial.

The Director-General suggested leveraging the technical capabilities of the FAO Hand-in-Hand Initiative Geospatial Platform to address data needs. He also advised that the small islands should ask for assistance as a collective to be more effective, especially for aquaculture and for global projects for poultry, including through the FAO Office for Youth and Women, as well as the FAO Office for SIDS, LDCs, and the Animal Health Division.

The pair further agreed to continue collaboration and strengthen support, including through technical support and innovations to progress the transformation of agrifood systems in the SIDS.
