Readout of the bilateral meeting with H.E. Marcelo A. González Ferreira Vice-Minister for Livestock of the Republic of Paraguay

Georgetown, Guyana - FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met H.E. Marcelo A. González Ferreira Vice-Minister for Livestock of the Republic of Paraguay on the sidelines of the FAO Regional Ministerial Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC38) in Georgetown, Guyana.

The Vice-Minister expressed his gratitude to the Director-General on behalf of the President, H.E. Santiago Peña Palacios, who had met with the Director-General in November 2023. 

The Vice-Minister also conveyed his appreciation for the appointment of the new FAO Representative in Paraguay and looked forward to working with him to achieve collective goals. 

The Director-General underscored FAO's support in enhancing sustainable livestock production, encompassing breeding, animal feed, animal health, and zoonoses. He also recognized the country's important contribution to global food security through its food production, and encouraged the Government to establish a national brand for specific products using FAO as a platform through the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) Initiative. 

The Director-General and the Vice-Minister further explored the importance of technical support for family farmers and innovations as tools to increase value and achieve the transformation of agrifood systems.
