This report was prepared during the course of the project identified on the title page. Abstract
This report details the results of a consultancy carried out to develop Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) feeds for use at the Project's fry production centres and by small-scale farmers in the Lake Basin Region. The current feeding strategies employed by the Project and local farmers are critically reviewed and recommendations given for an improved semi-intensive pond using feeding strategy using locally available feed resources. Particular attention is given to the improvement of on-farm feed and fertilizer management techniques so as to reduce feed wastage and maximize fish production at minimum cost. Details of the existing and recommended dietary formulations and feeding regimes are fully described.
