CL 120/11-Sup.2

Council

Hundred and Twentieth Session

Rome, 18-23 June 2001

ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE THIRTY-FIRST SESSION OF THE CONFERENCE

1. In accordance with paragraph 12.7 of the International Code of Conduct on the Distribution and Use of Pesticides, which states that "Governing Bodies should periodically review the relevance and effectiveness of the Code. The Code should be considered a dynamic text which must be brought up to date as required, taking into account technical, economic and social progress", it is proposed that a new agenda item entitled "Progress in the revision of the International Code of Conduct on the Distribution and Use of Pesticides" be added to the Provisional Agenda for the Thirty-first Session of the Conference contained in Appendix A to document CL 120/11.

2. The International code of Conduct was adopted by the FAO Conference in 1985 and was amended by the Conference in 1989. With the adoption of The Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, Article 9 of the Code became obsolete. Also, additional amendments were required to reflect technical progress.
