#ICT4SDG: Using ICTs to drive sustainable development in UAE
In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have been identified as pivotal. But how can countries apply these technologies to address the challenges laid out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development? ITU interviewed Nasser Bin Hammad, Senior Manager International Affairs, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), United Arab Emirates, about how ICTs are supporting the UAE’s progress towards the SDG goals.
In this interview, Nasser Bin Hammad explains how the UAE are committed in increasing clean energy production and consumption, boost the quality of education and health care, and promote the participation of women in the economy and society. Regarding ICTs, he explains that the UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority organized events such as the Smart Cities Forum and Smart Learning Forum which enhance awareness on these topics and bring together regional and international experts who are able to share their vision on ICT management strategies for sustainable development.
