International Conference on Food Security (September 7-8, 2023)
On September 7-8, 2023 the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan - with the technical support of FAO - will host the International Conference on Food Security as a global multilateral platform to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the field of food security.The International Conference on Food Security will review the state of food security in the world with a special focus on Central Asia, deliberate on key agrifood system challenges hindering progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, and seek solutions to these challenges. The status of implementation of measures to achieve the “Zero Hunger” goal of SDG 2, which includes specific tasks to eliminate hunger, improve food security and nutrition, and develop sustainable agriculture by 2030, will be carefully analyzed.The conference will provide a forum to discuss the following topics:
- Strengthening sustainability of agrifood systems in landlocked countries;
- Nexus of food security and access to healthy diets;
- Strengthening gender equality in rural areas;
- Water and food security;
- Agrifood trade promotion to strengthen food security;
- Innovative agricultural development and digital agriculture
As part of this 2-days event, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu will deliver opening remarks and a technical session with FAO's participation on Innovative Agricultural Development and Digital Agriculture will explore the pathways and policy options for leveraging the agricultural development and making agrifood systems more efficient, resilient, and sustainable through innovation and digital agriculture. The exhibition 'Agrifood potential of Uzbekistan' will also showcase smart digital devices that foster impact, including from FAO REU and NSP divisions.
