FAO launches an online public consultation: Advancing end-to-end Seafood traceability (9 March- 12 April 2021)

FAO has launched an online public consultation in order to collect comments and views on a draft guidance document on seafood traceability. The guidance analyses and documents the interrelation of traceability along the value chain based on country-specific traceability mechanisms that are often essential for verifying and corroborating submitted data. It focuses on Key Data Elements (KDEs) and Critical Tracking Events (CTEs) as salient collection points of traceability systems.

In the case of capture fisheries, Key Data Elements (KDEs) and Critical Tracking Events (CTEs) are based on the ‘State” types involved in fishing, landing, processing and trading of fisheries products along the supply chain (i.e. flag, coastal, port, processing and end-market States). While for aquaculture, the KDEs and CTEs are identified for a producer state (for feed, hatcheries and farms), as well as processing state(s) and market state(s).
