Description
As part of its 2018 Budget Message, proposed to allocate PHP 54.2 billion (USD 1.1 billion) to the Department of Agriculture (DA) in fiscal year 2018, representing an increase of PHP 13.3 billion (USD 259 million) from the current year. The additional funds would enable hybrid seed coverage in irrigated lands to increase by 47 percent to 500 000 hectares, boosting paddy output to 19.8 million tonnes. Among other support measures, mechanization and research would be promoted, farm-to-market roads expanded and a total of PHP 40.9 billion (USD 797 million) set aside for the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to develop and repair irrigation systems across the country.
