Urged farmers to declare the quantity and origin of seeds kept on-farm for planting, so as to ensure full transparency in the domestic seed market and facilitate the collection of royalties by seed producers.

In a bid to ensure full transparency in the domestic seed market and facilitate the collection of royalties by seed producers, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture reminded farmers of their obligation to formally declare the quantity and origin of seeds kept on-farm for planting – failing which they face fines and lose the permission to use seeds coming from prior harvests for planting (see also MPPU Feb.’17).
