According to press reports, the Zambian Government has provided equity finance to a local palm oil venture in a bid to help reduce the countrys dependence on imports of crude palm oil and cooking oils. Reportedly, the public-private partnership will focus on the development of oil palm plantations, including out-grower schemes for local farmers and the establishment of a palm oil mill. By supporting the production and processing of crude palm oil, the project once it reaches full capacity is expected to help substitute 70 000 tonnes of cooking oil imported into Zambia.
