Description
Introduced an area-based subsidy for sunflower seed cultivation in Punjab Province and planned to establish regional procurement centres to ensure farmers receive a guaranteed price.
Notes
To stimulate domestic oilseed production and thus help reduce the countrys dependence on edible oil imports, farmers cultivating sunflower seed in Punjab Province will receive a subsidy of PKR 5 000 per acre (USD 45 per ha). The local Government also plans to set up regional sunflower procurement centers (in cooperation with the countrys solvent extractors association), to ensure that farmers receive the guaranteed price of PKR 62 500 per tonne (USD 568).
