Description
Confirmed that rapeseed grown in Canada and Australia would remain eligible for use in the EU market as environmentally-friendly feedstock for biodiesel.
Notes
The European Commission confirmed that rapeseed grown in Canada and Australia would remain eligible for entering the EU market as environmentally-friendly feedstock for biodiesel, as the crops have been shown to meet the bloc’s increasingly stringent requirements (N.B. From January 2018, all biodiesel feedstock need to deliver GHG lifecycle savings of 50–60 percent compared to fossil fuels – up from 35 percent in 2017). For Australia, the EU represents a top rapeseed export market, with the bulk of deliveries absorbed by the bloc’s biodiesel industry.
