MERCOSUR members agreed on a set of rules governing trade in food products that contain traces of GMOs, with a view to protecting food trade among the blocs members from asynchronous trade barriers concerning low-level presence of GMOs.

Reportedly, Mercosur is the first regional bloc to adopt regulations in this field.
