Description
Released its annual agricultural policy roadmap, placing special emphasis on measures to foster rural growth and accelerate the modernization of agriculture. Stressing the importance of improved food security, the document called for efforts to stabilize the countrys grain area and to improve crop yields. Specifically, domestic soybean output was to be secured, while production of rapeseed, groundnuts and other oilcrops was to be promoted. The roadmap also emphasized the need to diversify agricultural import sources and support the countrys seed sector via the promotion of commercial breeding systems and genetic modification techniques.
