Torrential floods hit the Sudan – Suad’s story

Heavy rains caused devastating flooding across the Sudan in September 2020, with the River Nile reaching water levels not seen for nearly a century. It ranks among the worst floods ever recorded in the region. Blue Nile State saw thousands of hectares of land destroyed and with the majority of people there relying on agriculture for their livelihood, the impact has been profound. Suad’s family is among those most affected after the floods destroyed her crops, leaving her with nothing. FAO is providing livelihood support to vulnerable flood-affected households like Suad’s to ensure that they can continue their agricultural activities in the coming seasons.
