The meeting, organized in collaboration with FAO, the lead agency for the ERP flagship partnership, was sponsored by the International Volunteerism Organization for Women, Education and Development (VIDES International) and the South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE) .
This workshop focused on both the challenges and opportunities of the cross-cutting themes of education for rural people and the role of power and politics in combating poverty. During the meeting was reiterated that education for rural people (ERP) is tied directly into the Millennium Development Goals, particularly the goal of education for all. Ms. Florence Chenoweth of FAO underlined the importance on the development of the rural and agriculture sectors in order to attain the MDGs and other development goals.
