FMD Risk Mapping Workshop (CIRAD) - Workshop on Qualitative risk mapping and optimization of national monitoring systems: development of risk-based surveillance protocols

Since 2016, the EUFMD has implemented a specific programme in collaboration with the French Agricultural Research and International Cooperation Organization (CIRAD) aimed at improving the risk assessment capacity through trainings and workshops focused on qualitative risk mapping, integrating animal mobility and other risk factors. The primary objective of this activity is to reinforce the capacities of national veterinary authorities on risk analysis, risk mapping and their abilities to design risk-based surveillance and control options for FMD and similar Transboundary animal diseases. The methodology proposed in the training has been already implemented in some areas of North Africa and demonstrated good capacity to identify risk areas for FMD introduction and spread and a similar training and activity has been proposed to Egypt, Sudan and Libya.

Following the first workshop held in CIRAD, Montpellier between 1 and 12 April 2019 with the three countries, EuFMD has organised along this programme a second second training on: “Qualitative risk mapping and optimization of national monitoring systems: development of risk-based surveillance protocols”, which will be held in Rome (FAO HQ) from the 15th to the 19th of July 2019.
