Regional cooperation for the prevention and control of Footand-mouth And Similar Transboundary (FAST) animal diseases, between Turkey, Islamic Republic of Iran, Pakistan and EuFMD

In the new programme, 2019-23 workplan of the EuFMD, the focus will remain on Foot-and-mouth Disease (FMD), but it will also extend the scope of preparedness and risk reduction activities to other FAST diseases (FMD and similar transboundary diseases) which pose an immediate threat to the EuFMD Members and neighbouring countries. The new workplan includes the EuFMD members, Turkey and Georgia, in the south east European neighbourhood (SEEN) as well as, the neighbouring countries in the sub-regions of SEEN, North Africa and the Middle East. The Statement of Intention (SOI) agreement and its objectives and key activities in West Eurasia, including Turkey, Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan have been described. The agreement includes information sharing on vaccination and outbreaks, risk mapping and control strategies of FAST diseases, laboratory support, surveillance and post vaccination monitoring (PVM), as well as, training and capacity building. It has been also explained the importance of mutual collaborations between Turkey-Iran-Pakistan as well as, mutual support in areas such as, early warning, training and laboratory diagnosis.
