The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD)

Virtual Workshop for the Validation of the Vaccine Demand Estimation Model-FMD (VADEMOS) for Ethiopia, Uganda and Zambia

09/11/2021 -
Online,

The  European  Commission  for  the  Control  of  Foot-and-Mouth  Disease  (EuFMD),  under  Pillar  III  of  its  current  workplan,  has  developed  a  stochastic  simulation  model,  to  estimate  the  FMD  vaccine  quantities  needed  to  control the disease in years to come in endemic countries. The first version of the model has been converted to a  web-based  tool  with  an  interactive  user  interface.

This  allows  national  veterinary  authorities  and/or  other  stakeholders  to  change  input  parameter  values  used  in  the  model  to  simulate  alternative  scenarios  such  as  livestock demographics and details of control strategies, resulting in variations in the final vaccine dose number.

The EuFMD is organizing two virtual workshops for two geographical areas of West-Eurasia  and  East  Africa  to  validate  the  model  and  get  feedback  from  national  experts to fine-tune the model and to collate viewpoints on further expansion of the model.

The objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Describe the aims of the developed decision-support model;
  • Describe the main data sources and assumptions used in the model;
  • Describe,  present,  and  interpret  the  intermediate  and  final  results (i.e.,  total  doses  of  vaccines  needed)generated by the model.
