Meeting of the Steering Committee of Regional Transboundary Animal Diseases Control Program in Arab and African Regions

The Arab Organization has implemented two previous phases of the Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) Control Program in the Arab region from 2003 to 2018, where foot-and-mouth disease, rift valley fever and brucellosis were targeted in the program, and many activities aimed at raising the capabilities of veterinary services in the field of combating targeted diseases were implemented, as the program achieved its objectives. 

The third phase of the program has been launched since the beginning of 2020 for a period of 5 years to include four diseases and to expanded geographically to include Arab & African regions  

The SC was formed under the chairmanship of the Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and the membership of representatives from financing (the Arab Bank for Development in Africa and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development), representatives of international counterpart organizations (EuFMD, FAO & WOAH), the National Coordinators that designate by the targeted countries and regional coordinator as Rapporteur of the Committee. 

Meeting objectives: 

  1. Discussing the program timelines for the coming years 2022-2023;
  2. Discussing the technical and financial reports of the first period 2020-2022;
  3. Identify opportunities for cooperation with partner organizations to implement program activities.

The European Commission for the Control of Foot and Mouth Disease (EuFMD) will be participating in a meeting organized by the Arab Organization for the Agricultural Development (AOAD) for its 3rd Steering Committee meeting, which will be held on 3-4 October 2022 in its HQs in Khartoum, Sudan. Our consultant Mr Shahin Ahmed Mohamed Baiomy has been nominated to participate on behalf of Mr Fabrizio Rosso, as representative of the EuFMD.
