Progressive Control Pathway for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (PCP-FMD) National Kenya

This is a two-day face-to-face workshop. At the end of this training, participants should be able to: 

  • Explain the objectives and approaches of Kenya’s RBSP for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) control and their own priorities to make it successful; 
  • Explain the challenges and local solutions for implementation of the national RBSP; 
  • Instruct relevant staff on how to implement the interventions and monitoring advocated in the RBSP 

It is strongly recommended that participants attending this workshop must be enrolled and complete the PCP-FMD vlearning course prior to the start of this activity. Participants should also familiarise themselves with the national RSPB for FMD control. 

Sessions will include seminars, interactive group discussions and participants’ presentations. Examples of the topics/sessions include, but are not restricted to: 

  • Group work to identify local priorities; 
  • Roles and capacity of field teams, e.g. in relation to:  biosecurity, awareness raising, surveillance (market surveillance, outbreak investigation, lesion ageing, selection and despatch of appropriate samples) and data collection and management; 
  • Monitoring of implementation and effectiveness of interventions such as movement controls and emergency vaccination: e.g. discussions on definition of zones, movement controls, vaccine procurement, vaccination records and data analysis;
  • Planning of serosurveillance: e.g. discussions on effective use of laboratory capacity, how to design serosurveys to monitor population immunity and undisclosed infection.
