Including disposal capacities in contingency plans for FAST disease outbreaks - Webinar

20/02/2023 -
Online,

Foot-and-mouth disease and similar transboundary animal diseases (‘FAST disease’) remain permanent threats to European livestock production. FAST diseases are often highly infectious, and a single introduction usually has a serious and frequently catastrophic impact on animal health and welfare. Controlling FAST disease outbreaks, in many cases, includes humane destruction of infected, recovered, and susceptible contact animals and appropriate disposal of carcasses and animal products.

Sufficient disposal and rendering capacity are key elements for the efficiency and public acceptance of FAST disease outbreak control. These elements should be considered in the contingency planning process. Disposal alternatives must be explored and required capacities for FAST disease outbreak control must be estimated.

This webinar will focus on:

  • Increase awareness of the importance of addressing carcass disposal options and capacity in FAST disease preparedness and contingency planning
  • Share recommendations on optimising disposal capacities during FAST disease outbreaks.
