PPR Blueprint Consultation and FMD Roadmap meeting for Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO - West Eurasia)

25/04/2023 - 27/04/2023
Baku, Azerbaijan

The Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs), a joint initiative of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), was launched on May 24, 2004.

This facilitative mechanism aims to provide a coordination framework to efficiently achieve prevention, detection and control of transboundary animal diseases (TADs). Among the priority diseases are Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR). FMD severely affects livestock productivity, disrupting regional and international trade in animals and animal products. In low and middle-income countries, the greatest impact of the disease is the loss of production and income, which together affects the livelihoods, food security and nutrition of pastoralists.
