SCRISAR - first online meeting of the new Committee

An online meeting has been called as the first meeting of the newly elected Committee.

SCRISAR members will elect a chairperson, review the terms of reference (as agreed at the 45th General Session), agree an order of business for its meetings, decide on a work programme for the reminder of this biennium (until the next General Session in May 2025) and consider forming working groups to address specific themes or issues.

The SCRISAR will:

  • Provide support for the regular assessment of FAST threats to Member Nations in order to prioritize activities of the Commission aimed at monitor and mitigate the risk of FAST introduction and spread into Europe and improve emergency response capacity.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to the Commission for the implementation and evaluation of surveillance for FAST diseases aimed at improving the early detection of FAST circulation in high risk areas of Europe, European neighbourhood and other areas considered of risk to Member Nations.
  • Provide advice on training and support needed for the implementation of integrated surveillance in high risk locations, ensuring the adoption of efficient models of collaboration that can maximise the use of samples collected and the value of different risk information available
  • Ensure guidance for the functioning of network between the laboratories in neighbouring countries and the FAST disease reference centres (EU-RL and FAO/WOAH-RL and others) in the EuFMD Member Nations
  • Provide support for identifying gaps in knowledge or in the available tools needed for better preparedness and response in EuFMD Member countries
  • Assist in the definition of mechanisms for scaling up support on FAST diseases according to risk and for strengthening emergency arrangements for confirmation of suspected cases of FAST diseases 
  • Contribute to define the priorities for technical projects that provide the greatest overall value for money, which may be either generic (to multiple TADS) or focus on a specific one. At the request of the Executive Committee, provide scientific and technical assessment of proposals for technical project and field studies  put forward for funding by the Commission.
