The aim of the vaccination advisory group is to assist countries of a region in the design and implementation of post-vaccination monitoring activities and act as a platform to exchange experience and expertise on vaccination for FMD and Similar Transboundary (FAST) animal diseases.
The objectives of the current GVA meeting are to:
- support countries in studying the immune response generated by the vaccine and ensuring vaccine protection against the specific serotypes of the FMD virus circulating in the region;
- promote monitoring the effectiveness of vaccination programs among SEEN countries;
- encourage collaboration and information sharing among SEEN countries, as well as with international organizations and reference laboratories;
- validate the proficiency of laboratories in producing reliable results, contributing to capacity building efforts by promoting continuous learning and improvement in diagnostic capabilities among laboratories in SEEN countries;
- support countries in simplifying vaccination schedules, making it easier for farmers to protect animals against multiple diseases with a single vaccination event.
