Initiatives for improved capacity development - country visit to Albania

The workplan of the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) for Phase VI (2023-2027) aims to adequately Respond to crises and improve resilience of livestock sector to FAST diseases in Member Nations. A part of the program is focused on enhanced confidence in freedom, early detection and improved skills for effective and efficient response to FAST incursion, in some high-risk areas of Europe like the Balkans. These initiatives build on the support provided to the region during previous phases and aim to increase the capacity in the region.

As one of the beneficiary countries under this activity area, Albania has agreed to develop capacity for FAST preparedness on a risk-based approach with the technical assistance of EuFMD. During the last regional (South-Eastern Europe) Management meeting, it was discussed and agreed that technical support in FAST diseases contingency planning, awareness and training should be provided.
