Regional FMD Roadmaps

The implementation of the Global foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) control strategy  is assessed at regional level using roadmap platforms. These are aligned to the main Pools  of circulating serotypes and strains of FMD virus. Countries with endemic FMD that belong to the same roadmap region  use these platforms to share a long-term vision for FMD control. The roadmap platforms permit the exchange of information on FMD virus circulation, vaccination and other control initiatives; foster the formulation of harmonized programs for FMD control; and strengthen regional technical networks.

In five of the seven major FMD virus Pools, regional roadmaps meetings are organized regularly, under the umbrella of the Global Framework for progressive control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs). The FMD working group is made up of seven internationally recognized experts from FAO, WOAH, and EuFMD and leads the implementation of the Global FMD Control Strategy  (2012-2027), with activities at global, regional and national levels.

The FMD Regional Roadmap meeting reports are available on the Global Framework for progressive control of Transboundary Animal Diseases website.
