Developing guidelines on sustainable forest management under the impact of climate change in the region

Climate change and its impacts on forests are already evident throughout the Central Asia region.

The Food and Agriculture Organization Sub-regional Office for Central Asia will hold the Conference on Climate Change Impact on Forests of Central Asia, which has been commissioned to the Chamber of Forest Engineers of Turkey (OMO). 

The conference is a part of an agreement between FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU) and FAO Sub-regional Office for Central Asia (SEC) under the Regional initiative (RI) 3 inter alia on delivery of the regional result related to the strengthening of capacities of the technical networks in the region in adoption and promotion of the Nature-Based Solutions (NBSs) in the agriculture and forestry sectors supportive of the Sustainable Natural Resource Management under changing climate for the biennium 2020-2021.

The countries will share the best practices and promote local, cost-effective, and proven solutions. The Conference outcome will lead to improved capacities to 1) address the impact of climate change in forest management strategies, and 2) formulate policies in support of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
