Cocoa Talk 5 – Gender and Child Labour in the Cocoa Sector

Yaoundé (Cameroon), Hybrid Event, 07/02/2023

Gender and Child Labour in the Cocoa Sector

The 5th edition of the event will discuss sustainability in cocoa value chains and the transition towards sustainable production practices, focusing on gender and child labour and the interlinking impact of sustainability issues related to poverty, price, and traceability in the cocoa value chain. The event will take place in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Tuesday, 7 February from 8:30 to 18:00 (local time) and will be implemented in hybrid format.

In the framework of the Cocoa Talks series the European Union partnered with the Ministry of Commerce, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), the European Forest Institution (EFI), the European Union Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to organize the events.

The Cocoa Talks aim to build consensus among all cocoa sector stakeholders on the transitions towards sustainable cocoa value chains. These events, which are led by the European Union and its Delegations, aim at building consensus among national stakeholders from cocoa-producing countries (such as Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Cameroon) on sustainability issues in the cocoa value chain. The dialogues will allow stakeholders to enter into a greater level of detail to inform national strategies and policies on sustainable cocoa.
