International experts meet to protect plants from harmful pests in the Near East and North Africa

The experts discussed how to stop exotic or invasive plant pests and diseases from entering and establishing themselves in the region. This is especially important given the large volume of international trade in agricultural products. They will also look at ways to increase phytosanitary capacity, prepare regional positions on new proposed international standards for phytosanitary measures, and share best practices in plant health. There will be a special session on stopping the spread of the Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) through early detection and good management practices.
