These Guidelines for increasing access of small-scale fisheries to insurance services, have been developed as a complement of the 2014 Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines). They were developed to provide implementation guidance for increasing access to financial services, particularly insurance, by small-scale fisheries. They also intend to support the implementation of the 1995 FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries in terms of promotion and development of measures to facilitate access to insurance coverage in fisheries. These Guidelines are voluntary, global in scope and focus on the insurance needs of small-scale fisheries in developing countries, particularly in Asia.
