HOMEF trains Rivers farmers on Agroecology

Framers selected from different parts of Rivers State have been trained on food and farming systems organised by Health of Mother Earth Foundation(HOMEF) in Port Harcourt, the state capital. During the two days training which concluded yesterday, the participants were trained on how stick to agroecology for better farming system. Speaking on the significance of the agroecology, the Programme Manager of HOMEF, Joyce Brown, noted that agroecology will help to divert the impact of climate change. Brown explained that it will help to mitigate the impact of climate change by retaining carbon in the soil and cutting down usage of fossil fuel, saying, unlike industrial farming which is the fifth producer of fossil fuel in the world that forms greenhouse gases that deplete the ozone layer. At the same time, CIKOD's work with smallholder farmers and support for agroecological farming methods for food production got great coverage on TV.
