How to make a traditional African hive with two openings
Rwanda's climate and rich and varied melliferous flora are favourable for the development of beekeeping. This document explains how to make a traditional hive model composed of elongated cyclinder made with the stems of Pennisetum (Urubingo), bamboo or papyrus. This hive model is very suitable to promote among smallholder producers that wish to take up beekeeping because it is well adapted to the local environment and it is easy to make and manage. In addition, this hive model requires little financial investment because it is made with locally available materials.
