Blue Hope Tuna

LIFE members, staff and scientists explain current challenges and future opportunities to give the right to fish Bluefin Tuna back to small-scale fishing communities.

Small-scale fishers play a vital role for coastal communities. For centuries they fished for Bluefin tuna, which provided a significant seasonal source of income for them. Since 2006, under the ICCAT Bluefin Tuna recovery plan, they have been robbed of their right to fish this important specie, with the consequent loss of an important source of income. Today, the recovery of Bluefin tuna stocks and the increase in the TAC allocated to Europe from ICCAT provide an unmissable opportunity to end this unfair discrimination.
