FAO-EAC: Promoting youth employment in the Agricultural sector in East Africa

In response to the rising youth unemployment ratio and cognizant of the potential of the agricultural sector in creating productive employment for youth, FAO Sub-Regional Office for Eastern Africa in close collaboration with the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat is implementing a Technical Cooperation Project entitled: “Promoting Youth Employment in the Agricultural Sector in East Africa.” The overall objective of this project is to contribute to reducing rural poverty and to boosting economic growth through supporting the creation of better opportunities for youth in the agricultural sector. This project seeks to enhance an enabling environment for the rural poor, especially the youth is aligned to the East African Youth Policy of August 2013 and the African Union’s Malabo Declaration on “Accelerated agricultural growth and transformation for shared prosperity and improved livelihoods”.
