A step-by-step approach toward a gradual adoption of the full conservation agriculture technology: an example from Timor-Leste
This practice describes the step-by-step approach to promote conservation agriculture implemented in Timor-Leste. It also describes the conservation agriculture (CA) principles and steps in adopting the CA package.
After several years of promoting CA in Timor-Leste by various actors, the adoption of the CA package is rarely fully implemented by farmers. Partial adoption of CA technology by farmers is a standard step in the process.
Changing old farming practices typically takes place over several years. It is generally accepted that at least 5 to 10 years is necessary to change farmers' practices sustainably.
