ECOWAS Signs Grants Agreements To Promote Training On Agroecology

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, has entered into grant agreements with 15 educational institutions to develop agroecology skills among member states, as an element of the ECOWAS Agroecology Program supported by the European Union. The combined budget for these agreements stands at €1,320,784.43, with each institution obtaining around €88,000 over an average period of 18 months, with the intent to educate 12,000 young people throughout the area.

These grants aim to create a cooperative framework between ECOWAS and each participating institution, concentrating on the execution of program activities across West Africa. The objective is to cultivate a human resource and eco-friendly system that enhances agricultural productivity and promotes a robust rural community. ECOWAS will aid these institutions by elevating the quality of education and addressing pertinent issues related to agroecology. The overarching goal of the program is to provide agroecology training to nearly 12,000 young individuals, including men and women, across the region by 2024.
