Within the framework of the SocPro4Fish project developed by FAO and INVEMAR with the support of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), meetings were held with institutions from the departments of Meta and Córdoba to strengthen the actions of the Inter-institutional Group for Social Protection in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector (GIPRO).

 

The objective of the GIPRO is to create a space for articulation that influences decision-making to promote social protection in the country's fishing and aquaculture sector, as well as articulation with other groups that are already discussing the different components of social protection.

 

On April 4, 2022, a first roundtable was set up in Colombia which brought together members of the inter-institutional group, institutions and organizations of the country's fisheries and aquaculture sector.  

 

In addition, in the departments of Meta and Córdoba, the institutions of the two pilot aquaculture zones met to promote, support and develop social protection ideas in their areas of activity that benefit small-scale fish farmers. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of establishing mechanisms to ensure the formalization of aquaculture activities, risk management and the rehabilitation of the livelihoods of these communities in accordance with their needs.  

 

In Meta, 26 representatives of the following institutions participated in the territorial roundtable Colombian Federation of Aquaculture Farmers (FEDEACUA), Villavicencio Mayor's Office, Departmental Government, Colpensiones, Society for the Sustainable Development of the Special Administrative Region of La Macarena (CORMACARENA), Caja de Compensación Familiar del Meta (COFREM), Universidad de los Llanos, Autoridad Nacional de Acuicultura y Pesca (AUNAP), ARL Positiva, Villavicencio Chamber of Commerce, Oficina de Gestión del Riesgo del Meta and Empresa Acuícola Langostinos.
